Hello Faraway Files Community, it’s been ages… It seems like it was just yesterday I was headed to England for our summer adventures, and now here it is mid October and only two weeks until Halloween. I hope you all had wonderful summer holidays, and are settling into autumn.

Did you know that beyond my love traveling and art I am also a lifelong baker? It’s true! I’ve combined my love of art and baking into a custom cookie business, and of course it’s important to do research, so this week I’m linking my post about our London adventures, and more specifically our search for all things sweet.

Faraway Files #127 A Travel Blogging Community #farawayfiles

Are you a city mouse or a country mouse? I’m most definitely a city mouse, but even a city mouse needs to escape the hustle sometimes, so this week I’m sharing my recent adventures at Malibu State Creek Park, which is the perfect spot to spend an afternoon. Not only is it a lovely scenic spot, but its close proximity to LA made it a prime filming location and for the better part of a century many of the films and television shows we know and love were filmed there. Where else in the world can you combine Hollywood with hiking, What about you, do you, where do you go to escape? Is it somewhere close by, or far from home? Either way, I hope you’ll share it with here on this week’s edition of Faraway Files.

Summer is here, or almost, technically it’s not for another few weeks, but here in the United States, Memorial Day Weekend marks the start of the summer season. For many of us that means vacation time, beach days, and of course that sweet summer staple in a myriad of flavors and colors: ice cream. Do you have a favorite summertime treat? Welcome to this week’s edition of Faraway Files. Summer is on the horizon and with only 5 weeks left in the school year the countdown to vacation has begun. My younger son, Elliot and I will be heading to England (one of our favorite places), and if that weren’t special enough, once again we will be meeting up with Clare and her family. We couldn’t ask for better guides, so we won’t even need to google “things to do”.

I recently published my 300th blog post, which got me to thinking about how, when I started this blog almost 4 years ago, I had no idea how long It would last, and I certainly never thought I’d write 300+ entries about everything from street art in Portugal and my loathing of backpack people to super blooms and how to make your own skateboard.

Hello from rainy Los Angeles! Yes, I mean rainy. We’ve been having a proper winter this year, with temperatures dropping into the low 30s, and inches and inches of rain. While I wouldn’t want this weather to last months, I have been enjoying the excuse to hibernate at home, and as future travel plans are in the works I’m happily researching. We are considering visiting repeat destinations, and as you’ll see in my post this week, just because you’ve been somewhere before doesn’t mean you won’t discover something new.

As you’ll see in this week’s post my 2018 was filled with many adventures, and I feel fortunate to have visited such a long list of places including: San Francisco, Atlanta, Palm Springs, Puerto Vallarta, Portland, Seattle, Miami and New Orleans. As always, art played a prominent role in all my travels and at home and I’m excited to see where 2019 leads me where both art and travel are concerned.

Faraway Files #100

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and for many people it’s also the busiest. Around our home we are in the midst of planning for the fast approaching holidays, school finals, a milestone birthday, and two upcoming trips. Speaking of milestones, Faraway Files is celebrating two milestones this week. Not only is this our linkup’s 100th edition, but it’s officially one year since Corey and I joined Katy, Clare and Erin to host this wonderful community of world travelers.

Faraway Files #96

Faraway Files Travel Blog Community #farawayfiles

Welcome to this week’s edition of Faraway Files. I’ve been sightseeing quite a bit lately, but haven’t been traveling. Nope, instead we’ve been visiting destinations closer to home with a heavy focus on Southern California’s many beach cities. This week I’ll be sharing some of our favorites from LA’s closest neighbor to the north, Malibu, which stretches 21 scenic miles along the Pacific Coast Highway, and is the stuff California dreams are made of.
