Faraway Files #65

FARAWAY FILES #65 A Travel Blogging Community

Its time for another edition of Faraway Files, and I don’t know about you, but I could use some inspiration. It’s that time of the year when the winter holidays are starting to feel like a distant memory, spring break is still a month off (still not sure what we’re doing), and don’t even get me started about summer, which seems so far in the future it’s almost out of reach.

Don’t mind me, after two amazing trips, in as many months, I might be suffering from a bit of post trip disorder? You know, that feeling you get when you’ve just been somewhere great, and now you’ve been forced to return to reality.

What better way to break up the monotony of day to day routine than a trip to somewhere new? I recently visited Atlanta, Georgia for the first time, and I’m excited to share some of my adventures with you on this week’s link up. Honestly, I had no idea Atlanta had so much to offer, so stay tuned for future posts as well!

Erin’s favorites from last week were:

Shades of Courage – Visiting Europe’s Largest Urban Farm

In Search Ofs – Viarregio Italy Carnival

What about you? Are you in need of some inspiration? If so, you’ve come to the right place!

Welcome to Faraway Files, the travel link up hosted by Erin from Oregon Girl around the World, Katy from Untold Morsels, Corey from Fifi + Hop, Hilary from Hilarystyle and Clare from Suitcases and Sandcastles

This is the place to link up your travel posts every Thursday. Faraway Files is a weekly file of the best travel ideas on the web. We want to dream of faraway places, to make new travel plans and share our travel secrets. Inspire us to travel to places we’ve never considered before or revisit a place we thought we knew. We know that you can feel faraway even when you’re close to home so share your experiences of travels near and far wherever you are in the world.

We love our link up and the supportive community we’ve created. If you join in, please reciprocate and comment on the hosts’ posts as well as any others that take your eye. If we see a pattern of people not joining in, we have decided that it’s fairest to all of us to remove the links of those posters.

So let’s inspire and share each other’s posts. We’ll try to read and comment on every post and we’ll share them on social media too. Each week we’ll choose our favourites and highlight them on our blogs and social media channels using #FarawayFiles.

How it works:

  • Link up one travel-related post and add the Faraway Files badge onto the post or your blog (code below) or link back to the hosts.
  • The link up will go live every Thursday at 8am, UK time, until midnight on Friday. It will alternate between Untold Morsels, Suitcases and Sandcastles, Fifi + Hop, HilaryStyle and Oregon Girl around the World. This week’s link up is right here.
  • Link ups work best if everyone shares so please comment on all of the marked hosts’ posts and at least one other.
  • Tweet us your posts (@suitandsand, @UntoldMorsels, @oregongirlworld @fifiandhop @hilarystyleme) using the hashtag #FarawayFiles and we’ll retweet to our followers.

Welcome to Faraway Files #63! We’re already through the first month of the year, and I’ve loved reading about everyone’s adventures and wishes for travel in 2018. We talk a lot about where we’re going and where we’ve been, but what about why we go? What inspires and influences your choice of destination? Budget, distance, sports, favorite books…

Speaking of books! Have you ever loved a book so much you wished the places or people within were real? Wanted to jump into the pages and magically be there with them? I definitely have! In fact, I think it’s my lifelong love of books that has led me to dream of visiting faraway places. I know I’ll never visit Narnia, Shannara, or Westeros (Maybe that last one’s a good thing?), but there are some places straight from the pages of books that I can visit, which leads me to this week’s post all about our recent visit, along with Clare and her family, to the very REAL Hundred Aker Wood. Have you been inspired to travel after reading a book? Visited a place you never dreamed was actually real?

Happy New Year, and welcome to this week’s edition of Faraway Files. So far, my 2018 is off to a great start! Only two weeks into the New Year, and I’ve already got one weekend trip under my belt. Plans for two more mini trips are shaping up nicely, but I still haven’t decided on a big ticket destination for the year. Of course for inspiration I need look no further than Faraway Files, and the many adventures, from around the world, shared by all of you.

Wherever I end up I have a feeling that my love of Street Art will feature prominently. This week I’m sharing a post all about our adventures in Shoreditch, a trendy neighborhood in London’s East End. We had a wonderful time exploring and even got a chance to get creative.

FARAWAY FILES #58

Welcome to this week’s edition of Faraway Files, a fabulous travel blogging community, where people from all over the world share their travel tips, inspiration, and adventures! I think of it as the modern day form of having a pen pal(s)! I’m excited to be to be using our new Faraway Files logo, which includes Corey and I, for the first time!

Faraway Files A Travel Blog Community

The holidays are upon us, and while I do love our holiday traditions, its nice to shake things up every now and again, so for the first time in six years, the boys and I will be spending our winter holidays away from home! I’ve assured my younger son that Santa will find us, even in London!

Speaking of which… Faraway Files will be taking a break for the holidays, and will return on January 4, 2018, with Katy as the first host of the New Year!

I’m excited about all the fun things we’ve got planned during our visit to London! In the spirit of discovery I’m sharing my post about things I’ve discovered in my own hometown: Los Angeles! My post 50 MORE Things to do in Los Angeles, is a companion piece to last year’s post 50 Things to do… and if you can believe it we’re already deep into EVEN more things to do in LA!

Just like every week there were many inspirational posts! The following were some of my favorites from Faraway Files #57:

Shades of Courage gives us the scoop on transatlantic stopovers, and I’m already thinking we need to plan our next big destination, just so we can include the Azores on our intinerary!

I know I’ll be in London for Christmas this year, but Esther of Your Dutch Guide’s post about the Amsterdam Light Festival has me thinking ahead to next year’s Christmas destination.

Jacki of Hit the Road Jacki shares 5 of her favorite US National Parks. Her photos are stunning, and reading about them gives you an idea of just how vast the United States really is.

Welcome to another week of Faraway Files! Now that the chaos of Thanksgiving is over I’m ready for the chaos of Christmas. I love this time of year and all the festivity it brings. I may not be in the majority, but I also love holiday shopping, the lights, the Christmas music, and even the crowds of shoppers. This week I’ll be sharing about my recent visit to the LA Fashion District where I picked up a number of fun holiday gifts for my family.

It’s Christmas time!

While I love a pretty package, I love an experience even more, especially one that involves travel. This year my family and I will be traveling over the winter holidays and we are excited to see and do many new things!

Check out these recent posts written by my fellow travel bloggers. I’ve been inspired by their adventures, and I bet you will be too!

Catherine from Catherine’s Cultural Wednesdays gets us in the holiday spirit with her post about London’s upcoming Christmas shows. I’m especially excited about this post, as I’ll be in London in the coming weeks, and there are many fun choices.

See the Nutcracker Ballet in London

Annabel of Smudged Postcard is thinking ahead, so if you’re a planner and you need ideas for spring break, you’ll want to check out her post about where to spend the Easter holidays. She mentions many places already on my list of must-see places, and her amazing photos won’t make it easy to choose just one.

Stunning Gozo

Cathy from MummyTravels tells us all about her magical visit to the desert of Oman, a place I admit I never considered visiting, but now that I’ve read about her adventures I’ve been opened up to a whole new world…

I wonder if there’s a magic lamp out there somewhere?

Faraway Files #54

Welcome to Faraway Files a weekly travel link up! I’m particularly excited about this week because I’ll not only be joining up, but I’ll also be co-hosting this amazing travel community along with Erin from Oregon Girl around the World, Clare from Suitcases and Sandcastles, and Corey from Fifi & Hop. I discovered the Faraway Files travel blogging community around week four and have been faithfully contributing each week since.

Through this community I have discovered places far and near, made connections both long distance and in person, and most importantly I’ve made friends! Corey and I met in NOLA last April, and I’m excited to be meeting Clare in England this coming holiday season! Erin and I share a Pacific Northwest connection, and I know we’ll find ourselves in the same place one of these days…

Corey and Hilary in New Orleans Louisiana
Meeting up with Corey of Fifi & Hop was a highlight of my last visit to New Orleans!

If you’re already following me at hilarystyle.me (You’re not? What are you waiting for?) then you’ll know I have two boys and wherever I go, they go, which means at the ages of 9 and 15 they are world travelers and all around go along guys! Like all of you I love to travel and explore the world both near and far, and when I’m not traveling I’m busy exploring my hometown of Los Angeles!

This week I’ll be sharing a post about LA Museums. Did you know there are over 100 museums in Los Angeles? I’m nowhere near making a dent, but I have checked off a few…
